Maxime Viellard (France) & Ángel Lara V. (Costa Rica)
Located at Hotel Santarena, Las Catalinas.
Part of the Balance series, this sculpture is inspired by the Zen practice of balancing stones in rivers as a form of meditation.
Made from stones sourced from the Orosí River in Costa Rica, each element is carefully cut and connected by iron pieces that pass through the structure.
At first glance, the sculpture appears to be in a fragile, almost impossible balance. However, every element is precisely engineered and firmly connected. What seems on the verge of falling is, in fact, completely stable.
The work explores the relationship between fragility and strength, reflecting our deeply human search for balance even when life feels uncertain.
You are invited to become part of the artwork by adding your own small stones to the composition. It is a beautiful way to interact with the sculpture and with others, as each person leaves a small contribution that becomes part of an ever-evolving collective creation.
