Art Nouveau Spoon

Ángel Lara V. (Costa Rica)

Located at Paseo Palmeras, Las Catalinas.

Part of Ángel Lara's sculptural exploration of everyday objects, Art Nouveau Spoon transforms a familiar utensil into an oversized work of art, inviting us to rediscover the beauty of objects we often take for granted.

Inspired by the Art Nouveau movement, known for its flowing lines, organic forms, and intricate ornamental details, the sculpture reinterprets the spoon through an expressive, sculptural design. Its exaggerated scale turns an ordinary object into an unexpected landmark, while its vibrant red enamel finish gives it a bold and playful presence.

The sculpture is assembled from a complex combination of metal elements, including tubes, decorative metal components, and sheet metal. Each piece contributes to the overall form, requiring the artist to bring together different shapes, materials, and details to create a cohesive sculptural composition. This intricate process transforms individual industrial components into a unified work of art.

Installed in Las Catalinas alongside Art Deco Spoon, the sculpture creates a dialogue between two influential design periods. Together, the works celebrate the ways art and design can transform familiar forms, bringing artistic expression into everyday public spaces.

Through this playful encounter between scale, form, and design history, Lara invites visitors to pause, look closer, and discover the extraordinary within the ordinary.
