Art Deco Spoon

Ángel Lara V. (Costa Rica)

Located at Paseo Palmeras, Las Catalinas.

Part of Ángel Lara's sculptural exploration of everyday objects, Art Deco Spoons transforms an everyday utensil into an oversized work of art, inviting us to rediscover the beauty and expressive potential of familiar forms.

Inspired by the Art Deco movement, known for its geometric patterns, bold lines, symmetry, and sophisticated ornamentation, the sculpture reinterprets the spoon through a distinctive sculptural language. Its monumental scale and vibrant red enamel finish give it a striking presence, transforming a functional object into an unexpected artistic landmark.

The sculpture is assembled from a complex combination of metal elements, including tubes, decorative metal components, and sheet metal. Through the careful selection, shaping, and integration of these different pieces, Lara creates a cohesive form that balances industrial materials with the visual richness of decorative design. The complexity of its construction reveals the craftsmanship behind what might initially appear to be a simple object.

Installed in Las Catalinas alongside Art Nouveau Spoon, its companion piece inspired by the Art Nouveau movement, the sculpture creates a dialogue between two influential design periods. Together, the works celebrate the relationship between art, design, and everyday objects, inviting visitors to discover how familiar forms can be transformed through scale, material, and imagination.
